Florida Trip/Tom Wesselmann/Banksy/And More!
Vacation days, just like every other day, have ups and downs. Lets get the downs out of the way first and fast. Snow in NYC caused my flight this past Monday to be cancelled. Next flight out... wasn't until Friday the 31st. I am supposed to land at JFK at 6:30 pm barring no delays I can still make it out for the night! Last night, my cousin was checked into the hospital with chest pains and with all the tests they have to run she will be in the ER until sometime tomorrow. I think she is going to be ok, but always best to be 100% sure. I am house bound with no car and stuck in Florida.
So I am turning my frown upside down and I edited my website fully today and now I am on to this blog post...
One positive from the trip: On Sunday, my mom and I took a trip to the Fort Lauderdale Museum of Art. The main exhibit was Tom Wesselmann Draws. I knew very little about Wesselmann, but I was very pleased with the exhibit and it was well worth the trip. His work is part Warhol/part Lichtenstein. He is most famous for his "Great American Nudes" and the exhibit showcased these as paintings, prints, metal cut outs, molded plastic, and sketches. I really enjoyed his smoke studies like the photo below. Very 70s and very chic.

Wesselmann is also being featured this month at the Haunch of Venison in London. I read that on this a new website I found: http://artwednesday.com/ Found and immediately followed!
Another major bonus to visiting this museum was getting a chance to see a Banksy in person! I saw the movie and I have looked at countless photos of his work but nothing compares to seeing it in person. See my not so great iPhone - "illegal" photo below:
Triple dose of inspiration in this post!
