New Bedford Massachusetts
On May 20th, I was fired from my full time job. For now I will be - kicking back, teaching part time, sewing, and writing blog posts about current projects and the people/places that inspire them. I will be launching a few posts called $5 days in NYC soon!
This week I will writing about a day trip with my aunt to New Bedford, Massachusetts. I was born about 30 min. from the downtown area however, the last time I was there was most likely around age 5 or 6. What a cute town! Cobblestone streets, quaint art galleries, waterfront walking paths, and adorable coffee shops. One of the town's main attractions is the New Bedford Salvage Center. Old homes are torn down and the reclaimed goods/interiors are for sale at this HUGE center. Entire fireplace mantles for only $1,500 would be the perfect accent to an NYC apt. One could pretend that you had a working fireplace!
Another highlight from inside the center is a vintage store called Circa (pictured). Hollywood stylists come all the way to New Bedford to shop here for the actors/actresses in period pieces! I spoke to the owner, Chris Duval, while he was mending a dress from the 60s. What a job to sit and mend beautiful clothing all day! I SO wanted a hat that was filled, yes filled, with colored feathers. The feathers were stitched around the hat and there was a layer of tulle sewn over them to keep them in place. I regrettably did not buy it because I just acquired a hat from my boyfriend that I love as well. So I have to wear that one a bit first. I have to work hats into my wardrobe one at a time.
